Questions
- What counts as an email?
- One request to POST /v1/emails is one email, whatever the number of recipients (up to 50 across to, cc and bcc). Scheduled emails count when they are sent; cancelled ones never count.
- What happens when I reach the limit?
- On Free, sending stops until the first of next month (UTC) and the API returns a plan_limit error. On every paid step, sending continues and each additional 1,000 emails is billed at that step's overage rate (£0.60 on Pro 50k, down to £0.30 on Growth 2.5M). Enterprise limits are agreed up front.
- How do I pick a step?
- Pick the step whose included volume is closest to what you send in a typical month. If you regularly pay overage, the next step up is usually cheaper: the Cost at scale table shows the effective price per 1,000 for every step. You can move between steps at any time; the change applies from the next month.
- Do test mode emails count?
- No. Emails sent with a test key never leave Avelto, are free, and are not metered. Fair use applies: test mode is for building and testing, not for load-testing our queue.
- What does Enterprise add?
- For 3,000,000+ emails a month: custom volume and overage on an invoice, dedicated IP addresses by contract, 90-day log retention, a 99.9% uptime SLA, priority support with a named contact, and EU data residency. Tell us your volume and we will come back with a quote.
- Are prices inclusive of VAT?
- No. Prices are in GBP and exclude VAT, which is added at checkout where it applies. Invoices show the VAT amount separately.
- How are domains verified?
- Add the domain through the API or the dashboard and publish the five DNS records it returns: three CNAMEs for DKIM, one TXT for SPF, one TXT for DMARC. We re-check the DKIM records whenever you fetch the domain and mark it verified once they resolve. Most domains verify within minutes of the records propagating.
